Tomorrow morning the Government's Transport Committee begins an enquiry into 'Reforming Public Transport After The Pandemic'. (1)

The Transport Committee exists to scrutinise the expenditure, administration and policy of the Department of Transport, who are responsible for HS2.

HS2 was an insane idea before the pandemic. Post-pandemic it's even crazier. The ways we work and travel have changed forever. Demand for travel is not anticipated to return to pre-pandemic levels, let alone dramatically increase. (2)

The business case Boris Johnson used to give HS2 the go-ahead in February took no account of Covid-19, so it's is even more bankrupt than it was then.

ACTION - Please take a minute to send a polite email with your views on the need to cancel HS2 to the Transport Committee at transcom@parliament.uk

Some other points you could mention ...

HS2's expenditure is out of control, with expert analysis now pointing towards £170billion. (3)

HS2's administration is a disaster, from property owners being evicted without being paid, to the vast amount of taxpayers' money required to buy properties still being unclear. The management of essential licenses to protect wildlife are in chaos.

The policy of pursing HS2 goes against the Government's Net Zero target by 2050.

During the Fracking at PNR, we started to look further into the roles and activities of suppliers, in the main, those that used HGVs.
If you operate an HGV (any vehicle over 3.5 tonnes), you need to have an operators license. These can be corporate or personal. The license covers a number of things, mainly that the vehicles are suitable and roadworthy. They also cover the financial aspect of the company and the parking/storage of trucks and ancillary equipment.
Using the systems already in place, this information can easily be found and monitored. On a couple of occasions, we found vehicles were used not having a valid test certificate or tax. We also highlighted tachograph issues and security of loads.
HGV drivers have to have a vocational license to drive commercially, this consists of 35 hours training every 5 years. This means that any drivers who break existing rules should be reported, this can include attempting to drive through protests, unsafe/dangerous loads, condition of vehicles and trailers, tidiness of the cabs and how the vehicle is used.
A database could be set up and any evidence placed on it against the company or a recognised driver. Many items will only attract a verbal advisory, but if there is a pattern, there is more likelihood of action from the Drivers Standards Agency.
We did use Facebook to do this, it must be secure and only accessed by a very few to post on, then someone to oversee and report as and when.
